About Megan Thorpe

Megan is a psychotherapist with over ten years experience in Sydney and the U.K. She is a long term Buddhist practitioner and practises in the Theravada Thai Forest tradition , having had experience in all of the major schools of Buddhism.

Her particular areas of interest are spirituality; death and dying; loss, grief and bereavement; living with chronic illness and existential issues.

She uses awareness practices in her work with clients, and teaches meditation, relaxation and stress reduction techniques.

Megan trained in Core Process Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute in England, and has an M.A. in Core Process Psychotherapy from Middlesex University.

She is in private practice at the Metta Clinic in Pymble, in the northern suburbs of Sydney. She works with individuals for therapy and offers supervision to therapists. She is a teacher, trainer and group facilitator.

In addition to her private practice, Megan also works as a Bereavement Counsellor for the Sacred Heart Palliative Care Service in Darlinghurst. In this role she works with the family and friends of people who have died either at Sacred Heart Hospice, St Vincent's Hospital or in the health area served by the South East Sydney and Illawarra Area Health Service.

Megan is also Vice President of the Australian Association of Buddhist Counsellors and Psychotherapists (AABCAP). This is a national organisation which aims to bring therapists together to discuss, learn and study the two disciplines of psychotherapy and Buddhism.
